Tell us about your family:I have been married for 20 years to my husband, Ron Hiatt, who is a volunteer Arlington police officer. We have a bright and energetic 9 year old son named Max, who loves to camp and is active in Boy Scouts. We have two puppies named Ladybug and Mr. Wiggles. Our family loves the outdoors. We own over 85 acres of private forestry land in Darrington and Granite Falls Washington. Our family loves the natural beauty of the state.
In my spare time I enjoy:I am a 5K running enthusiast who also enjoys local arts programs and writing fiction. I like upcycling clothing and finding ways to repurpose obscure items that may have been overlooked.
People describe me as:I am very involved in community service and public outreach. I regularly partner with community organizations such as Washington Women in Need (WIN), Camp Korey, Providence Hospice, and the City of Arlington to support programs that help ensure neighbors in need have access to housing, food, support, and resources to be successful and be a strong environment. I am the producer of “Project Rerunway,” which is a local community fashion show that features local consignment and upcycled clothing available for sale to help reduce textile waste in landfills. Additionally, I produce an annual camping-themed charity pageant called “Glamping Queen,” that raises food bank donations and money for worthy charities, as well as encouraging families to spend time together.
Special Talents? My special talent is my is my continued belief that we can make the world around us a better place if we all take a moment and realize we are one giant Global community. Working in nursing, I have come to understand the power of being present for others. Mr. Rogers once said “Imagine what our real neighborhoods would be like if each of us offered just one kind word to another person.”
Famous Moments? This year I got to be one of the "Founding Twenty" of the Global Beauty Awards. I was able to network and make connections with men and women of all ages who are all involved in pageantry, and I was nominated for two awards! I have been involved in pageantry at all levels of participation - From being a contestant, to directing, to being a mentor and chaperone for younger women coming up in the ranks. I think pageantry is the best and most fun women's networking organization!
Something unique or quirky about you:I am an avid romance novel reader and I have published my own romance stories on Amazon Kindle! I find writing to be a wonderful way for people to connect and express themselves!
What is your personal philosophy"I attribute my success to this - I never gave took any excuse" Florence Nightingale
Why is this important to you?As strong women, it is important that we hold ourselves accountable - and the people around us accountable - for how we affect the world around us. This is an important lesson I have learned form nursing and from life. If there is something that needs changing, we need to change it. If we feel we lack something in our lives, we need to accept ownership of this and do what needs to be done to meet our personal goals, while ensuring we do no harm to those around us. If each of us take this philosophy, what a wonderful world we would have!
Your best asset? My creative spirit! I am always busy doing a project!
As a woman of empowerment, what is your "Magic"?My magic is seeing the potential and beauty in all areas of life, and in all people. I truly believe each of us is divinely made, and that a "flaw" is only an assent that has not been applied correctly. My message to other women is that you ARE worthy - No matter what your age or circumstance is.
